Experienced in wind and water innovative solutions
With the transition into Renewable Energy, the focus on the supporting technologies has never been more crucial. We ensure that energy efficient systems are supplied and installed to complement the wind and water environments which are evolving around our costal area.
PCL Group is already supplying critical systems to meet the demands of this new technological era, having already built and delivered servers capable of sustaining harsh environments. These servers provide the capability to store and manipulate data being transferred via acoustic sounding, on behalf of a technology dependant and service delivery company, which specialises in 3D and 4D subsea acoustic imaging. On this project, in-house capability at PCL Group not only ensured that the new, but also that existing servers already installed could be repaired in the UK rather than being shipped back to Canada at huge expense, exposure and cost to the company. This service reduced critical downtime on projects due to quick turn-a-round repair or replacement systems.
With government commitment and funding supporting this new energy phase it is imperative that the demands which this industry make can be supported by the right technology service companies. At PCL Group we are proactively moving forward into the Renewable Energy sector with the same understanding and commitment we have shown the marketplace with our other four divisions, Offshore, Marine, Commercial and Industrial. Renewable Energy will further enhance our corporate portfolio to meet the demands of today’s energy world.
As a company we firmly believe that most of the existing subsea innovation and skill sets can be transferred into the renewable energy sector.
Jeanette Forbes, CEO, was one of a small team of people who objected on behalf of the masters and captains onboard supply vessels to the proposed location of wind turbines which were to be situated in the anchorage just off Aberdeen Harbour. She spent most of December 2009 collating 30 reports from vessel management. After much discussion and compromise with the various companies and departments concerned, a new location was agreed which did not interfere with operational or navigational issues or cause any concern to the health and safety of personnel onboard PSV or AHTS vessels. This shows her commitment to the Renewable Energy sector but not at the cost of life!
